A visiting Czech choir being hosted by the Lochaber Rotary Club, which will perform in the Duncansburgh Church on Tuesday 7th July at 7:30 pm. The impressive programme is attached and the biographical note of the Choir reads as follows:
The Janáček Mixed Choir was founded in 1949 in the town of Jablonec nad Nisou. In 1964 Josef Boček became the conductor who, in the 40 years to follow, built up a top-class mixed choir that has become one of the best in the Czech Republic which is a fact evidenced by awards from domestic and international contests.
Janáček forms an integral part of the cultural life of Jablonec nad Nisou and its surrounding region. It holds concerts regularly in the town its vicinity and participates in regional musical festivals. Its activities are strongly supported by the town authorities.
Janáček also has rich international activities. Since the first international tour in 1964 the choir had toured 20 European countries and also visited the USA twice. The choir has frequent contacts with European counterparts. In the Janáček chronicles one can find records of 450 concerts in 80 locations of the Czech Republic, Europe and North America.
